The Device
Juul device kits start at $34.99 (USD). Presently, there are two kits to choose from, the Basic Kit, which boasts the aforementioned price, and the more expensive Starter Kit that runs an additional $15, raising its price to $49.99.
- Juul Basic Kit – This “kit” includes one rechargeable Juul device (the vape) and a USB charger.
- Juul Starter Kit – The starter kit comes with one rechargeable Juul vaporizer and four Juulpods, each a different flavor: Virginia Tobacco, Fruit Medley, Creme Brulee, and Cool Mint.
As the Starter Kit comes with everything one needs to start Juuling (vaping with a Juul vaporizer), the cost to start Juuling comes to $49.99. But to keep Juuling, well that’s another matter entirely.
The Pods
Juulpods, as they’re formally known, are sold in packs of four. Which is to say that each pack contains four pods. And a single pack, at 5% nicotine strength, is roughly the equivalent in terms of nicotine to a pack of cigarettes. There are no nicotine-free pods currently available and all pods, which offer 200 puffs a piece, contain the same amount of nicotine. They do, however, come in different flavors, which are currently as follows:

Three of the aforementioned Juul pod flavors — Classic Tobacco, Cool Cucumber, and Classic Menthol — are limited edition Juul pod flavors that are only available while supplies last.
Juulpods cost $15.99 per pack and each customer, when ordering directly through Juul’s online store, is limited to a total of 15 packs of pods per month. The monthly limitation on pod orders imposed by the manufacturer resets on the first day of each new month. Technically, based on this, one could order 15 packs of pods on the last day of the month and then place another order for 15 more packs on the following day – the first of the following month. However, one would then have to wait an entire month before ordering more, assuming that they place their order directly through Juul, whereas the reality is that one can simply walk to a gas station, convenience store, vape shop, or smoke shop to acquire more.
While we won’t speculate on whether or not the limitation is good or bad, we do want to note that 15 packs of pods translate into a total of 60 individual pods, which is the equivalent of 60 packs of cigarettes. Which is the equivalent to approximately 2 packs of cigarettes a day, in terms of nicotine. This would, by most measures, constitute a serious smoking habit were Juuls cigarettes and not in fact vaporizers.
Total Cost
Initially, to get into Juuling, one must fork up the cost of a new Juul device, which ranges from $34.99 to $49.99, the latter of which includes a Juulpod multi-pack containing four individual pods in varying flavors.
As a pack of Juul pods costs $15.99, one actually saves approximately $1 when buying the more expensive Starter Kit that includes a pack of pods, as opposed to buying a Basic Kit and then a pack of pods on top.
Depending on the rate of pod consumption, a user can then spend upwards of roughly $240 a month, if not more. This is based on buying 15 packs of pods a month, which is the maximum number of pod packs a single customer can buy from Juul on a monthly basis. In many cases, the number of pod packs consumed each month will almost certainly be less, translating into fewer dollars spent each month on vaping supplies.
The kits themselves, well, the Juul brand vaporizers that they come with, are rechargeable, which means that they don’t have to be replaced after use, simply recharged. And as each Juul device is covered by a one year manufacturer’s limited warranty, the devices are essentially good for at least one year. This means customers won’t have to replace them within the first year and incur any additional costs beyond the cost of pods and electricity used to recharge the device.
So at one pod per day, the equivalent of roughly one pack of cigarettes per day in regards to nicotine, the total cost each month for pods incurred comes out to roughly $120 over the course of a 30-day month.

Juul is a pretty widely available brand/product, from what I’ve seen anyway. Where I live I know Casey’s General Stores sell them, along with Walgreens, most “vape” shops, as well as Walmart (even though I have been told Walmart marks theirs up some $$).
