Vaping In Australia: Government Says No, But There Are Those Who Disagree

Vaper Empire E-Liquids

For Australians, vaping nicotine currently lacks government approval, however, many Australians disagree with the administration’s current stance on electronic cigarettes.

The Australian Government’s Department of Health recently released a written defense of their regulatory approach and current policy on e-cigs in the country. In their defense, they cite evidence that goes against the growing body of evidence in support of electronic cigarettes – all while ignoring the evidence to the contrary.

As The Australian pointed out in an opinion piece published on their website, the Department of Health’s defense of their own regulatory efforts and policy on e-cigs is in contrast to the British government’s current position.

By the U.K. government’s assessment of current scientific and medical research pertaining to vaping nicotine, such devices are favorable to traditional cigarettes. Subsequently, in the United Kingdom, it’s not only legal to buy electronic cigarettes and vaporize nicotine, it’s also encouraged for current smokers looking to quit their nasty smoking habits in favor of a less harmful alternative – vaping. To the contrary, it is illegal for businesses in Australia to sell nicotine e-cigarettes or nicotine cartridges as nicotine is classified as a Schedule 7 poison by the country’s federal government.

This, however, does not prevent Australians from purchasing nicotine liquids, as such liquids can be imported for personal use with a prescription from a registered medical practitioner. In other words, with a doctor’s note, Australians can buy their nicotine laced e-liquids online.

As a result of the Australian government’s policy on e-cigs and corresponding regulations, it’s currently more difficult to acquire nicotine e-cigs in the country than it is to acquire actual cigarettes.

Meanwhile, new research continues to be published in peer-reviewed medical journals the world over in support of e-cigarettes. One such study, published in the journal Addictive Behaviors, showed that the e-cigarette users sampled were more than three times as likely to quit smoking cigarettes than those who weren’t vaping. A separate study published in the journal Tobacco Control found that the world’s population would live significantly longer if it gave up the cigarette in favor of the electronic cigarette.

From our assessment, the Australian government ignores these studies and others reaching similar conclusions in favor of research to the contrary. The reason for which remains unclear.

Why do you think the Australian government is making it difficult for their citizens to vape instead of smoke?

  1. It is obvious Why the Australian Government ignores the truth. The reason being “money” which the Australian Government would rather have than healthy people.
The Government does not care about what is good or bad. All it can see is loss of revenue all the while looking for ways to regulate supplies to highly tax the “vaper”
