The new Rubi vaporizer by KandyPens has an appearance reminiscent of a USB drive, which is something that we’ve heard before in regards to the Juul vape by Juul Labs. While the two may look similar to USB drives to some, vaporizer retailer and distributor VaporNation seems to think that the Rubi makes the Juul “look like a rhinestone,” whereas the Rubi, comparatively speaking, is “a diamond in the rough.”
While Forbes contributor Curtis Silver points out that the Rubi, like the Juul, has come under increased scrutiny as a result of its appearance (that of an inconspicuous USB drive), he’s quick to point out that a vaporizer simply cannot be judged based entirely on how its discreet appearance is or isn’t being used to subvert authority.
In the case of Juul, some teenage students have reportedly indicated that its unassuming appearance makes it discreet enough to be used in a classroom without raising suspicion, a claim which we’ve made no attempt to verify.
Rubi Information
The Rubi vape is powered by a rechargeable 280 mAh battery. It’s handmade, air activated, 4 inches long, leak-proof, and it uses a ceramic coil built around Japanese cotton. It’s recharged via micro-USB, offers an auto-shutoff timer that’s somewhat standard these days in the vaporizer industry, and it come with a refillable 1 milliliter pod reminiscent of a Juul Pod. The device is covered by a lifetime warranty, supports waxes and e-juices (liquids), and according to its manufacturer, it heats up in just 5 seconds.
By VaporNation’s account, it’s “one of the most discreet vapes on the market.” And at 1 milliliter, its pods may very well have the highest capacity of any pods currently on the market.

Juul Comparison
VaporNation compared the Juul to the Rubi and found quite a few difference. Here are some of those differences:
- Rubi’s pods are designed to be refilled, whereas Juul’s pods are pre-filled and limited to the flavors sold by Juul. This opens up the Rubi to endless possibilities when it come to blends. Subsequently, Rubi can be used with a variety of blend types, whereas Juul is limited to what its manufacturer has made available.
- While both are powered by rechargeable batteries, the battery on the Rubi vape has a higher capacity than its Juul counterpart. The Juul vapes are powered by a 200 mAh battery and the Rubi vapes are powered by a 280 mAh battery. Higher capacity means longer vape sessions and less time on the charger.
- Rubi can be recharged via micro-USB, which is pretty universal these days. Juul on the other hand can only be recharged via its own proprietary charger.
