E-Cig Recall: Vuse Vibe Power Units Recalled Over Fire Risk

The Vuse e-cigarette company, which is owned by R.J. Reynolds, has issued a voluntary nationwide safety recall of Vuse Vibe Power Units after receiving complaints from consumers about malfunctioning batteries.

Why is this serious? Simply put, the issue is serious because it could cause some batteries to overheat, potentially creating a fire risk. If you’ve heard of exploding vape batteries, which is very real and on the rise, that could very well be what the company is trying to avoid by issuing the voluntary recall, which was announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on April 13, 2018.

Vuse contacted the FDA in regards to the issue after receiving consumer complaints and is now working directly with the federal agency to recall the affected products.

The recall is limited to Vuse Vibe products, which is to say that no such recall has been issued for Vuse Solo and Vuse Ciro products — both of which utilize batteries that are different from those used in Vibe products.

No injuries stemming from the recalled products have been reported at this time and the company is currently investigating the cause of the incidents that have been reported.

The company has received 10 complaints in total in regards to the malfunctioning batteries.

Consumers who have used Vuse Vibe products are advised by the FDA to stop using their Vibe products and to not charge them. Instead, they’re advised to call 1-800-369-8200 or to visit the Vibe recall section of the Vuse website for more information on how to return Vuse Vibe power units and receive funds.

In a statement, Vuse noted that it “is committed to providing products of the highest quality” and that they “regret the inconvenience” that the malfunctioning batteries and corresponding recall will cause their consumers.

“[Vuse] is committed to providing products of the highest quality, and we regret the inconvenience this will cause our customers.”

In total, R.J. Reynolds has recalled 2.6 million power units that have already been sold.
