As the We Vape We Vote tour stopped recently in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, well-known Republican politician Ron Johnson came out to Iconic Vapors where the tour had made a stop and expressed his thoughts on vaping.
“We all know it’s a highly addictive substance, and some people just simply can’t kick the habit of cigarettes without having an alternative like vaping, so to me, this is all about that individual choice, that freedom of an adult being able to kick a very dangerous habit and go something that is far less dangerous,” Senator Johnson reportedly said.
The city’s health department issued a statement in response to the event in which it noted that vapes “can benefit adult smokers” while noting that e-cigs “are still fairly new, and scientists are still learning about their long-term health effects and whether they are effective for quitting smoking.”
Despite the city’s response, the CDC has gone on record to say that e-cigarettes are less harmful than regular cigarettes. As for their effectiveness in helping smokers quit, scientific studies have shown vaping to be an effective smoking cessation for some smokers. Research has also shown that e-cigarettes may be nearly twice as effective as traditional nicotine replacement therapies, including the patch and gum.
We Vape We Vote is a group that advocates keeping vaping as an option for adults, stopping bans on flavored vaping products, educating the masses about vaping and its potential benefits for adult smokers, reducing restrictions on the PMTAs, and protecting the vaping industry jobs that could be lost as a result of government intervention.
The group claims on their website to have over 13 million supporters.
According to the We Vape We Vote’s website, a ban on flavored vaping products would result in an over $8 billion reduction in sales and remove over $22 billion from the US economy. Not only that, it would eliminate over 150,000 jobs.
