When you get your wisdom teeth removed, there are quite a few things to watch out for, including sucking on anything as the suction can cause a dry socket (alveolar osteitis). But what is a dry socket and what does this mean for vapers? Let’s find out.
Dry Sockets And Wisdom Teeth
When you get an adult tooth permanently extracted, a dry socket can form when the blood clot that forms at the site of the removed tooth either fails to develop, dislodges, or dissolves prior to the wound healing. Dry sockets, as those who have had them know, can be very painful.
Avoiding creating any sort of suction in the mouth, be it sucking juice through a straw or taking a drag from a cigarette, is recommended for those who have recently had their wisdom teeth removed.
Vaping And Wisdom Teeth Extractions
So we already know that smoking can lead to a dry socket after a wisdom tooth extraction, but what about vaping? Unfortunately for vapers, drawing an e-cig or similar vaping device creates negative pressure that can, just like smoking, pull a clot from an extraction site. In other words, vaping can potentially lead to a dry socket.
What To Do If You Vape
If you are a vaper and you’re wondering what you can do after getting your wisdom teeth pulled, the recommendation that you may very well not want to hear is that you should avoid vaping until the wounds inside of your mouth have fully healed.
While we don’t recommend it, we have heard tales of some vapers vaping through their noses. One such vaper has warned those who might try vaping through their nose to be careful to avoid any menthol vape juices as they can really sting when the vapor hits the nostrils.
