Former Smokers Are Likely To Relapse After Quitting Vaping, New Study Suggests

Vaper Empire E-Liquids

The findings of a new study suggest that former smokers who have taken up vaping as an alternative to conventional cigarettes are likely to relapse and return to smoking upon quitting vaping — not good news for vapers who have taken up vaping to get away from their smoking habits.

The results of the study, which were published in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research, found that of the over 3,800 regular vapers surveyed via an online survey, former smokers who quit using electronic cigarettes had a tendency to relapse – returning to their old smoking ways.

But there is good news amidst the numerous findings of the study. For instance, the study also found that relapse rates for former smokers continuing to use vaping devices to be low. It also found quit rates to be high among current smokers who had picked up vaping.

The study also found the concentration of nicotine in e-liquids used by former smokers turned exclusive vapers to diminish over time, however, interestingly, the number of daily puffs remained the same at 200 puffs per day.

The study, which was conducted by the Institute of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, was based on data derived from an online survey which asked respondents to complete surveys at different points in time over the course of a 12 month period.
