A student at Mooresville High School in North Carolina reportedly overdosed after vaping synthetic CBD and now the authorities have arrested a local vape store clerk and charged him with selling illegal drugs.
According to the Mooresville Police Department, the student was sold a vaping product purported to be CBD oil sold under the “Black Diamond” brand, however, the purported CBD oil turned out to be a synthetic concoction known by the chemical name 5-Fluoro ABD and FUB-AMB, which is a controlled substance.
The synthetic drug’s side effects to users can reportedly include coma, convulsions, stroke, seizures, loss of consciousness, and even death.
As a result of the local police department’s investigation into the matter, the shop at which the sale of the synthetic CBD allegedly occurred, Tobacco & Vapor located on North Main Street, 31-year-old Rashad Naji Mohsen Al Hubaishi was arrested, charged, and his bond was set at $75,000, WSOC-TV reported.
Authorities confiscated nine vials of “Black Diamond” CBD oil reportedly hidden throughout the vape shop during their search of the shop. They also seized over $6,000 in cash.
In other news, the U.S Army issued a warning to its troops earlier this year over the potential dangers of vaping synthetic CBD after a number of service members were hospitalized after vaping synthetic CBD oils. In their warning, the Army noted that real CBD, the non-synthetic version that’s derived from cannabis, “has not yet been associated with adverse health effects.”
