How Do You Inhale With A Vaporizer?

Vaper Empire E-Liquids

There are two main techniques vapers employ to inhale vapor from their vaporizers. In this guide, we’ll explain to you not only what they are and what their benefits/downsides are, but also how to use them.

Mouth To Lung (MTL)

The first method we’re going to discuss is mouth to lung, which some refer to as “MTL” for short. With mouth to lung hits, the user first draws the vapor into their mouth and then their lungs.

  • Efficient blend consumption on a per hit basis.
  • Inconspicuous in comparison to DTL as less vapor is exhaled, which also means less smell.
  • Easier on the lungs.

Direct To Lung (DTL)

Direct to lung hits are where the user draws the vapor directly into their lungs without first sucking it into their mouth.

  • Larger clouds than MTL hits.
  • Less efficient blend usage on a per hit basis in comparison to MTL.
  • More of a sensation in the lungs. Some users of this method have reported a sensation of “fullness” and “warmth” in their lungs.

Comparison: DTL vs MTL

Comparing the two methods, DTL hits generally provide more vapor, but consume more blend with each hit. MTL hits are generally less conspicuous as they smell less and less visible vapor is produced for onlookers to notice.

Based on these two inhalation techniques, there are actually two different classifications of vaporizers: direct to lung vapes and mouth to lung vapes.

MTL vapes tend to have an output of less than 15 watts. DTL vapes to be higher wattage and produce vapor more quickly, resulting in denser output. If you want to blow huge clouds, you’re likely after a DTL vape. But if it’s just some light, quick draws that you desire, a MTL vape may very well be what you’re after.
