Who Makes The Volcano Vaporizer?

The Volcano Vaporizer is made by Storz & Bickel GmbH & Co. KG, which is known as “S&B” for short.

The company began developing herbal vaporizers before it was a company, as Markus Storz, one of the company’s founders, began researching and developing herbal vaporizers in 1996 and it wasn’t until 2002 that Jurgen Bickel partnered with Storz to form Storz & Bickel.

Volcano Vaporizer History

The Volcano’s detachable balloon design was patented in 1999, one year after Storz registered it. International patent registrations followed soon after.

Just one year later, in 2000, Storz unveiled the Volcano Classic. As the company describes it on their own website, it was “the first good, full-fledged herbal vaporizer.” But it wasn’t until 2003 that the vape reached the U.S. market with the release of the first 110 volt version of the vape.

A couple of years after its highly successful introduction into the U.S. marketplace, the company founded Storz & Bickel America, Inc, a subsidiary founded in Oakland, California.

Oakland, which is connected to San Francisco by the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, is known to some locals as “Oaksterdam” — a play on Amsterdam — for its lax cannabis laws and regulations.

Then in 2007, the company launched its first electronically controlled vaporizer, the Volcano Digit.

The year after, the Plenty, a handheld vaporizer with a cord, was released.

The following year, in 2009, Storz & Bickel became an accredited manufacturer of medical devices after receiving its ISO 9001 and 13485 certifications. With that, the Volcano Medic was introduced.

Volcano Medic, which is known in some countries as VaporMed, was released in 2010. Its introduction into the market marked the release of the world’s first certified medical herbal vaporizer.

Fast forward a few years and in 2014, the company released its first portable vaporizers – the Crafty and the Mighty. With their medical device manufacturer’s credentials in place, they released the Mighty Medic the following year. The Mighty Medic being the world’s first battery powered medical herbal vaporizer.

Then in 2016, Storz & Bickel built the world’s first medical herbal vaporizer factory, which is located in Tuttlingen, Germany.
