3% Nicotine Strength Juul Pods Are Coming Soon

Juul Labs, the company behind the popular Juul brand of vaping products, has announced that it will soon provide consumers with the option to buy 3% nicotine strength pods.

Up until now, Juulpods, as they’re known formally, have only been available in one nicotine strength: a relatively high by industry standards 5%. This new variation on nicotine strength comes on the heels of the publication of a new survey conducted by the Center for Substance Use Research (CSUR), the findings of which can be found here.

Weighing in on the company’s decision to release a lower nicotine strength line of pods to consumers, Juul Labs CEO Kevin Burns said in a statement that Juul “wants to meet the needs and preferences of adult smokers who are on their journey to switching from cigarettes” and that they “hope the availability of different nicotine strengths will continue to allow adult smokers the ability to explore what is best for them.”

Burns added that the company “has enabled more than one million adult smokers to replace cigarettes” and that they “want to continue to offer meaningful options to adult smokers who want to end their relationship with combustible cigarettes.”

“JUUL has enabled more than one million adult smokers to replace cigarettes, and we want to continue to offer meaningful options to adult smokers who want to end their relationship with combustible cigarettes (…) JUUL Labs wants to meet the needs and preferences of adult smokers who are on their journey to switching from cigarettes, and we hope the availability of different nicotine strengths will continue to allow adult smokers the ability to explore what is best for them.”

The new pods, which contain 40% less nicotine by weight as the current 5% strength pods, are expected to be available in limited quantity come August of this year.

The company shared news of their decision to release lower nicotine strength pods on Twitter, noting that their newly announced 3% strength pods will be widely available to consumers.

By October, the company expects their new 3% nicotine strength Mint and Virginia Tobacco flavored pods to be widely available.

While the company will soon offer lower nicotine strength pods, they have yet to unveil any nicotine-free pods for consumers who want to forgo the nicotine entirely.

  1. On its face, offering nicotine-free pods might not seem like a good business decision but I think they’ll find that most users won’t completely transition away from nicotine anyway. Many, like myself simply want the option here and there.

  2. I noticed the recent store ban on flavored ponds, my question is can customers still get the flavored pods? Part two; will the 3% flavor pods aside from mint and tobacco be offered? I was never a heavy smoker to begin with maybe 3 a day, so the 5% pods are really a lot more nicotine than I am use to taking in. Vaping has no cut off like you get when you get to the end of cigarette. I need to be sure the nicotine level is as small as possible as I would vape more drags than I would smoke drags of cigarettes.
