These days, quite a few people, mostly vapers, are wondering whether or not e-juice–the liquid nicotine blends used by vaporizers and electronic cigarette–expires. We have the answer.

Do E-Liquids Expire?

While there isn’t any official expiration date for e-liquids, what we can tell you is that some of the main ingredients used in e-liquids do in fact have expiration dates.

Most e-juice formulas on the market today are made from either vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol, which are known as “VG” and “PG” for short. Both of these ingredients do have expiration dates. Just how long do they last? By some accounts, the two ingredients both exhibit shelf lives of approximately two-years.

Then there’s the other primary ingredient that we find in most e-liquid blends: nicotine. In the case of nicotine, the expiration date is the same as PG and VG: approximately two-years.

Based on this, the expiration dates on PG, VG, and nicotine, one might conclude that e-juice does in fact have an expiration date and that it coincides with the expiration dates of their ingredients. With this in mind, there’s a chance that your vape juice may in fact expire after approximately two-years.

Then again, company’s such as Juul Labs, manufacturer of Juul vapes and their corresponding e-juice infused pods, claim that e-juice does not expire. Well, in the case of Juul Labs, they claim that their e-juice does not expire. However, they’re quick to note that users “may experience a natural flavor decrease after one year.”

How To Store Your Vape Juice

Juul Labs, one of the leading e-cig manufacturers in the United States, advises customers of their “Juulpods” store their pods in dry environments at room temperature and that they keep them sealed until it’s time for them to be used.

It’s also suggested by some that they be kept out of direct sunlight and away from extreme heat as either can accelerate the degradation process and cause juice to expire more quickly than it has to.
