Do Electronic Cigarettes Actually Produce Vapor?

Vaper Empire E-Liquids

To many, the answer to this question is obvious: of course electronic cigarettes produce vapor, otherwise, why would they be referred to as vaporizers?

The truth of the matter is that, as far as we’re aware here at Vaporizer Wire, most (if not all) e-cigs are actually producing an aerosol, which is commonly mistaken for vapor. And it certainly doesn’t help that manufacturers, stores, reviewers, and the vaping community at large seem to be furthering this misconception with their discussions and marketing efforts.

According to Katherine M. Mastrota, an ocular specialist with a formal background in optometry, it is true that e-cigs do not create smoke, however, this does not mean that they’re producing vapor. Instead, they’re producing an aerosol composed of fine particles suspended in a gas. These fine particles include liquid, solid, or some combination of the two. To refer to it as vapor, according to Mastrota, is commonplace, but inaccurate.

With that in mind, anytime you see the word “vapor” here on the Vaporizer Wire website, there’s a distinct possibility that we are actually referring to aerosol.

Aerosol, as it pertains to vaping, is defined as a “colloidal suspension of particles dispersed in air or gas.” Vapor, by definition, is “a substance diffused or suspended in the air, especially one normally liquid or solid.” With blatant similarities between the two, it’s easy to see how many could easily mistake one for the other. And according to Mastrota’s account, that’s exactly what is and has been happening in the world of vaping as both companies and users continue to spread misinformation.

Did you know that e-cigs produced aerosol, not vapor?
