Is 5% Nicotine A Lot?

Vaper Empire E-Liquids

When it comes right down to it, 5% nicotine is a lot for any e-liquid. Thanks to the science that has produced modern nicotine salts, however, it has become possible to create e-liquids that contain 5% nicotine without the resulting e-juice becoming too harsh to inhale.

So while it is true that 5% strength is a very high strength for any e-liquid, many vapers have found it to be an acceptable amount that serves its purpose. Sure, there are those who are quick to say that it’s too high, however, there appears to be no shortage of heavy smokers that have switched to vaping who use 5% strength e-liquid to keep their nicotine cravings at bay.

Should You Use 5% Nic Strength?

The question of whether or not 5% is the right strength for you is one that only you can answer. It’s possible that it’s more than you need. If you’re not a current or former cigarette smoker with a pack a day habit to contend with, there’s a chance that it’s simply more nicotine than you need. If you are or were a heavy smoker, then 5% might actually be appropriate. Of course, it also depends on what type of vaping device you’re using, how often you vape, and how much you inhale each time.

Consider starting with a lower strength e-liquid and if that does not do the trick for you then move up a bit until you’ve found a strength that works well for you.

If you’re unsure of what the percentage means, there’s another way to look at the strength. In the case of 5% strength e-liquid, this translates into 50mg/ml.

Only With Nic Salts

If you find a bottle of e-liquid with freebase nicotine at 5% strength then it’s probably too harsh to actually use with your vape. Chances are, if you see anything near 5% strength then you are almost definitely looking at an e-liquid that contains nicotine salts, not freebase nic. The difference is less than subtle and it becomes readily apparent when you vape it because freebase is much harsher and is virtually impossible to use comfortably at concentrations anywhere near the 5% that has become somewhat common in the world of nic salt e-liquid.

Not Any Vape Will Do

You would be wise to remember that not all vapes are designed to work with nic salt e-liquid. Make sure you’re using an appropriate e-cigarette when vaping nicotine salts. Commonly, pod vape systems are designed to work with nic salts so if you’re using a pod system then there is a good chance that you’re on the right track. Be sure to check in advance that your hardware matches your vape juice. You can do this by contacting the manufacturers of your hardware and juice.
