A new study conducted by the Center for Substance Use Research (CSUR) and funded by Fontem Ventures, the vape company behind such brands as Blu e-cigarettes, has found vape juice flavors to play an important role in not only attracting smokers to vaping, but also in retaining them as vapers.

The study’s lead researchers, CSUR Deputy Director Dr. Christopher Russell, was quoted by EurekAlert as having said that the study’s “results show that non-tobacco flavors, especially fruit based flavors, are being increasingly preferred to tobacco flavors by adult vapers who have completely switched from combustible cigarettes to vapor products.”

“The results show that non-tobacco flavors, especially fruit based flavors, are being increasingly preferred to tobacco flavors by adult vapers who have completely switched from combustible cigarettes to vapor products.”

The research, which was published in the Harm Reduction Journal, analyzed over 20,000 frequent e-cigarettes users in the United States via an online survey.

The study also found fruit vape juice flavors to be the most popular in the U.S. at this time. Dessert/pastry flavors ranked second most popular and tobacco and menthol flavors, which are traditional cigarette flavors, ranked fifth and sixth most popular.

In conclusion, the researchers found that based on their study’s findings, restricting access to non-tobacco flavors of vape juice “may discourage smokers from attempting to switch to e-cigarettes.”
