After FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., shared a message on Twitter reiterating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s stance on combustible tobacco products and initiation of youth to tobacco products, Juul Labs, makers of the Juul brand of vaping products that serve as an alternative to conventional cigarettes, shared a message on the social networking platform supporting the FDA’s stance.

Dr. Gottlieb tweeted on March 27, 2018 that the FDA “is committed to a comprehensive approach to substantially reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with combustible tobacco and preventing youth initiation on any tobacco product.” The tweet included a link to an article on Vox.com titled, “America’s unprecedented move to limit nicotine in cigarettes.”

The article, notably, explains what Vox refers to as the FDA’s “avant-garde new tobacco policy” in detail.

In response, Juul Labs wrote on its confirmed Twitter account that they too share Dr. Gottlieb’s concern while noting that they “don’t want minors using” their products either and that their mission is to eliminate cigarettes “by offering existing adult smokers a true alternative.”

The tweet from Juul Labs included a link to the company’s “Our Perspective” page which includes information on the company’s “Underage Use Prevention” policies aimed at ensuring that only adult smokers of legal age use their products.
