The new VapePod Vaporizer by Kanabo Research, a medical cannabis research and development company based in Tel Aviv, has been approved as a medical device by the Israeli Ministry of Health, making it the first medical cannabis vaporizer to receive medical device approval from a country for use with medical marijuana extracts and formulations.

The Volcano Medic by Storz & Bickel, which is also known as VaporMed in some areas, is notably the world’s first medical herbal vaporizer to be certified as a medical device and put into circulation. For reference, the Volcano Medic is the Volcano Vaporizer, a desktop vaporizer designed for concentrates and dry herbs that utilizes a patented balloon delivery system to deliver vapor to users.

In light of VapePod’s designation by the Israeli government as a medical device, Kanabo Research now has the green light to mass produce their medical marijuana vaporizer, which is designed for use with cannabis extracts, not dry herbs.

What makes the VapePod particularly special among vaporizers is the fact that it has builtin dose measuring technology that allows users to measure their cannabis intake with a high degree of accuracy. While this isn’t unique to the VapePod as PotBotics actually released the world’s first dose-measuring vape, the Ryah vaporizer, it does separate it from most other marijuana vaporizers that are currently on the market.

High Times reports that the company’s plan is to sell VapePods to medical marijuana patients who have previously experienced difficulty administering the right amount of medicine to themselves, which can certainly be a tricky endeavor for some given the lack of dose measuring technology incorporated into most modern vapes.

While many vaporizers on the market today boast a range of features such as multiple temperature settings, variable voltage, digital controls, water filtration, and more, very few offer users the ability to measure their intake. Subsequently, it’s not hard to see where vaporizers with dose measuring technology such as the VapePod and Ryah might be beneficial to patients who are having trouble finding the right dosage.

Avihu Tamir, the co-founder and CEO of Kanabo Research, referred to VapePod’s initial approval as a medical device as “significant” for medical marijuana patients in Israel.

“This approval is a significant announcement for the medical cannabis patients in Israel who will be able to use the medical vaporizer for the first time.”

Tamir added that Kanabo is projecting $10 million in sales within the next three years in the Israeli market alone.

“We expect that due to the transition of most of the cannabis consumers to the use of vaporizers, our company is projected to reach 10 million dollars in sales within three years in the Israeli market, while the Israeli cannabis market is expected to reach 100 million dollars in sales within three years. The Israeli market is a platform to deliver our technology to global markets in North America and Europe.”

Interestingly, Kanabo’s research into cannabis products doesn’t end with VapePods as they’re also working on developing cannabis extract formulations to target specific medical ailments, which the company plans to release in the form of prefilled cartridges utilizing the company’s own “revolutionary” CCELL technology in which the heating coil is embedded within the ceramic core in a 360 degree fashion that, by their account, ensures uniform heating and consistent performance.
