Another E-Cig Explodes, This Time In New York

With vape battery explosions on the rise, it may come as little surprise to some to find that another e-cigarette battery has reportedly exploded, this time in West Seneca, New York.

WGRZ reports that an individual was injured after e-cigarette exploded earlier this month. The explosion occurred just after 11:00 a.m. on April 13, 2018 at the BOCES on Potter Road.

According to WGRZ’s coverage of the incident, the building in which the explosion occurred was evacuated following the incident, allowing time for the smoke to clear.

The extent of the victim’s injuries were unclear at the time of reporting.

According to BOCES officials, the victim was an adult student who felt something hot in their pocket. At which point, the victim removed the e-cigarette from their pocket. Shortly after removing it from their pocket, it exploded.

An employee then proceeded to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher.

With vaping’s skyrocketing popularity, e-cigarette explosions have become increasingly common, leaving some questioning the safety of such devices. As a result, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has weighed in on the matter with a list of tips intended to help vapers avoid becoming victims of exploding vapes.
