After four years of vaping, Andy Veal of Houston, Texas has more experience with a vaporizer than many and yet somehow, his vape’s battery still managed to explode while it was in his pocket.
The entire incident, which occurred on February 12, 2018, was captured on CCTV. Footage of the incident shows Veal’s pants flash as they burst into flames around the area in which the battery exploded, his pocket.
The incident occurred while Veal as work, which is why it was captured on camera.
As a result of the explosion, Veal was left with both first and second degree burns. While his thigh suffered the bulk of the damage, one of his hands was also burned in the explosion.
While some vapers might swear they’ll never vape again, this vaper has a different take on the incident as he noted that he thinks he’s “going to be a lot more careful from now.” And at the least, he’ll never carry an electronic cigarette battery in his pocket again.
“I think I’m going to be a lot more careful from now on.”
By Veal’s account, vaping has helped him quit smoking cigarettes, ABC13 reported. Perhaps this is why he’s opted to continue vaping even after one of his vape’s batteries exploded in his pocket.
As a result of the explosion and subsequent fire, Veal was rushed to a hospital where he was treated for his burns.
He told Eyewitness News that his “pants were on fire” and he couldn’t get out of them fast enough.”
“My pants were on fire and I couldn’t get out of my pants fast enough. I was on fire.”
As for why it happened, Veal is certainly curious, if not more so than anyone else, as to why it happened and now he wants answers. Not only that, he also wants to know how such incidences can be prevented down the line.
“It shouldn’t happen and I’d like to look into why it happened and how they can prevent it in the future.”
