In Malaysia, vaping companies continue to operate as normal while awaiting the possibility of new government imposed regulations.

In September of 2017, the country’s government formed a committee to regulate the vaporizing industry. This working committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Health, various vaping industry groups, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK).

The president of the Malaysia E-Vaporisers and Tobacco Alternative Association (Mevta), Rizani Zakaria, was quoted by The Malaysian Reserve as having said that the country’s vape entrepreneurs and dealers “are stilling running their business as usual, hoping that the license issue is revolved as soon as possible.”

“As we are waiting for the new law, dealers and entrepreneurs are still running their business as usual, hoping that the licensing issue is resolved as soon as possible.”

The vaping industry in the country, once booming, has seen a significant decline in recent times. In October of 2016, there were roughly 800,000 businesses and entrepreneurs operating in the country’s vape sector. By the beginning of the following year, 2017, this figure dropped dramatically to 200,000.

In the country, some groups, such as the Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations (Fomca), believe that vaping should be banned in the country. Meanwhile, others, such as those engaged in the distribution and sale of vaping products in the country, are hoping that the industry will be revitalized.

In the United Kingdom, the government’s health services have recommended that current smokers try vaping instead. But to the contrary, some countries have banned vaping in its entirety while citing public health concerns.
